Fix USB Device not recognized in windows 10 January 8, 2018 By Nithindev How to Fix USB Device Not Recognized Issue in Windows 10: – It is practically impossible to find someone who doesn’t use external drives like USB, external hard disks or mouse. The USB device descriptor is used to store information for USB drives and it is responsible for recognizing different USB devices. If it fails to work properly on Windows 10, the USB drive cannot be recognized by system and you may get errors like code 43. Now locate the Universal Serial Bus Controller in the Device manager list and then right click on the Generic USB hub option. Now after this you have to select the Update Driver Software option. Now you have to select on an option called Browse my computer for driver software. USB DEVICEDESCRIPTORFAILURE on USB VID0000&PID0002 5&B0E09D9&0&7 Hello everyone, on my Predator PH317-51 I can't use USB or Bluetooth (the option is simply gone). I have an unknown USB device in my device manager. I tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting and I tried the Windows Troubleshooting. Windows 10 / Devices & drivers. If nothing works at all, consult a professional to get the USB device descriptor failure Windows 10 issue resolved. It is better to get the issue check on time because it may give you troubles later as well.
What you should do is get rid of it. USB flash drives are consumables. Get a new one
.. however, I'd still like to ask with my specific situation:
I have a relatively older USB thumbdrive. When I plug it on my Ubuntu laptop at home, it mounts, no problem. When I've plugged it in the brand new Windows 10 machine at work, it got read at first, and upon subsequent plugs, it started reacting with all the:
'USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognized'
'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.' 'Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly.'
etc, etc, and in Device Manager, it says 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)'.
Then I tried connecting it through a USB hub - the first time it worked; the subsequent attempts at replugging failed in the same way. Here I noticed that often (though not always), if looking at device manager, first it will show a node in Device Manager which actually has the correct manufacturer for less than a second, and then that node disappears, and then a node with yellow exclamation mark and 'Device Descriptor Request Failed' appears.
Then I took the pendrive to colleagues Windows 7 computer - there it mounts without a problem. Then I tried it on colleagues Mac laptop - also mounts without a problem. Then go back to my Windows 10 station - again 'Device Descriptor Request Failed'.
So, since the thumbdrive works on 3 out of 4 machines, I'm really suspecting this inability to mount in Windows 10, is some stupid effort of Windows 10 to 'protect' me, possibly due to a hardware plug insert failure at an earlier point (say, maybe I failed to push the USB thumbdrive all the way in the USB socket).
So my question here is: assuming that the USB thumbdrive is actually healthy in hardware terms (indicated by the fact that it works fine on three other machines) - how can I 'persuade' Windows 10 to allow mounting again? Failing that, is there a way to debug what actually goes wrong during the mounting procedure (as I don't really trust the Windows report of 'Device Descriptor Request Failed' - considering how sometimes Windows 10 actually does get the manufacturer right, which it couldn't do if USB VID & PID it read from the thumbdrive were completely wrong; and yet it decides to remove the node from Device Manager)?

The Code 10 error is one of several Device Manager error codes. It's generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.
A device may also receive a Code 10 error if a driver generates an error that Device Manager doesn't understand. In other words, a Code 10 error can sometimes be a very generic message indicating some kind of unspecified driver or hardware problem.
